What is Rath Yatra?
Rath Yatra is a famous Hindu festival. Now the Rath Yatra Date is Tuesday, 23th June. Its also known as Car Festival or Chariot Festival. This festival related to Lord Shree Jagannath Held at in Puri, Odisha, India. Many many years ago Hindus celebrated this festival. This Rath Yatra Festival will celebrate all over the world. All information descript in Brahma Purana, Padma Purana, Kapila Samhita, and Skanda Purana.
We celebrate the festival once a year in Asadha Shukla Dwitiya means Ashadha Month Second day in Bright Fortnight. This Festival remembers Lord Shree Jagannath’s visit annually to Gundicha Temple known as Mausi Maa Temple.
This Rathyatra is a part there Lord Shree Jagannath and his Elder brother Lord Balabhadra and younger sister Devi Subhadra with Sudarsan are going with the procession to main Temple to Chariot. The Chariot or Rath is ready in front of the temple at Puri Bada-Danda. This doing Process called Panhandle.
This Yatra starts from Madan Mohan with Lord Jagannath, brother Lord Balabhadra, and sister Devi Subhadra to Mausi Maa Temple distance about 3.5km Approx.

All three gods and goddess have own three Raths (Chariots)
- One of the Big Rath is Lord Shree Jagannath, that’s name is Nandighosa Rath.
- Next is Lord Shree Balavdra Rath name is Taladhwaja Rath.
- Sister of Shree Jagannath Devi Subhadra Rath’s name is Devadalana Rath.
Only females can pull the Devi Subhadra’s, Devadalana Rath.
Why We Celebrate Rathyatra?
This Festival is most of the famous festival of Puri District in Odisha. This festival dedicated to Lord Shree Jagannath, elder brother Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. We celebrated this festival once a year in the month of June or July. Lord Jagannath, Elder brother Lord Balaram and his younger sister Devi Subhadra there annual vacation visit to aunt’s Temple called Gundicha temple, this yatra called Gundicha Yatra. And also this yatra is known as Chariot Festival, Dasavatara yatra, and Navadina Yatra.
We believe that every year Lord Shree Jagannath visits his birthplace Mathura and stays there in 7 days. It takes place every year from the Lord Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple to fulfill his wish. When Lord Shree Jagannath travels to Gundicha, he is seated on the chariot, after that we pull with rope the chariot and takes it to Gundicha Temple.

Lord Shree Jagannath Rath’s (Chariot) name is Nandighosa Rath. This Rath has 45 feet long and it has 16 wheels. The Rath has 4 horses on the front and the color is white. The rath was covered with Black and Red color cloth. There is two guardian name is Jayadurga and Arjuna. The Flag of the Chariot name as Nadambika. The rope which pulls the chariot’s name is Swarnachuda. The chariot also has the other idol’s names are Mangala, Chandi, Shyama Kali, Vanadurga, Chamunda, Ugratara, Shulidurga, Varahi, and Bimala.
